I am very grateful to be alive and writing at a time like this! A federal holiday has been established to celebrate the freedom of slaves. I love that my decision to write about the history that took place as the African-American race proceeded to live fruitful lives during and after their freedom.

I thought it would be a great idea to make sure I told these stories to people of every age, and not overlook children. It will assist them in making positive and powerful decisions as they move forward in determining the shape of America and beyond.

I look forward....especially now that we are coming together again to looking at the faces of children, as I read to them hoping they will join in and sing along with me about the story of a people who found joy and prosperity despite their challenges.
